Reading the oxidation before we touch it
Gelcoat tells you what a season on the water actually did to it before a buffer ever comes out. Mild oxidation shows up as a light haze or a slight dulling across the hull sides, still workable with a straightforward polish. Heavy oxidation reads differently: a chalky, sometimes powdery film that rubs off on your hand, the sign of maintenance that got skipped for a season or two.
We grade the hull honestly before quoting the correction. A boat with mild fade needs less time and less product than one that's gone chalky, and starting price on any watercraft job varies with that condition along with size, same as every other job we quote.

The wash-down after a weekend out
Salt, fuel film and lake grime don't do a hull any favors if they're left to sit. A wash-down after a weekend on the water is one of the easiest things an owner can do to keep gelcoat from working its way toward that heavier oxidation stage, and it's exactly what we recommend booking after a longer outing.
It's a quicker visit than a full correction: rinse, hand wash, dry, and a check of the spots that trap grime, rub rails, cleats, the swim platform, before any of it sets hard enough to need real work later.
Chapter 03
The complete detail and gelcoat correction sequence
A full job covers the whole boat, not just the hull sides. Complete exterior detail and complete interior detail go on the same appointment, cushions and console wiped down and vacuumed alongside the hand wash and correction work outside.
Correction itself is a sequence, not one pass: wash and decontaminate first, then work the oxidation out in stages depending on how heavy it is, then polish and protect so the gelcoat isn't back to chalky within a month. Jumping straight to polish on a heavily oxidized hull just buries the problem under a shine that doesn't hold.
